So...Stupid

I said "stupid" to my kids last night.
I was tired, worn out, and told my daughter to "leave the stupid fan alone and get in bed like I asked [her] to a million times."  I saw the shock in her face when the word came out of my mouth.  I might as well have said the worst swear imaginable.  "Stupid" is known as the "s" word around here, because "we don't say stupid in our house."  It was not good.  I'm sure they will someday remember and talk about the day mom swore at them.  And then they will laugh.

Even though my daughter's last moment with me yesterday was filled high with contention, she woke up this morning happy, loving, and forgiving.  This amazed me.  It was as if she had forgotten all about it.  Maybe I was off the hook.

But before she got on the school bus I hugged her, kissed her, and whispered in her ear, "I'm sorry I said stupid last night."

Her shoulders sank and her eyes drooped as she remembered.  "That really hurt my feelings Mom."

"I know Sweetheart.  I'm so sorry.  I shouldn't have said that."

"I'm sorry too."

We were just talking the other day about how everyone makes mistakes, even moms and dads.  I may not have been a great example of self-control, patience, or biting my tongue before saying something mean, but hopefully I showed her the importance of saying sorry.

Even moms and dads make mistakes, and even moms and dads have to say sorry when they do.
I hope that is what she learned from this experience.

But more likely she's just left remembering that Mom said stupid.
Oh well.  :)

In other news...
This kid pooped yesterday for the first time in four days.

He was quite excited about this accomplishment, as were his proud parents.
Way to go buddy.
Way to get 'er done.

Audibly laughing... at the poop not the bad word. ;) You are such a good example to me. I agree with you. We all make mistakes, I think they need to hear us apologize. You are such a good Mama.
