Monday Memories 012: Baby Baxter

January 2008 Baxter entered our family.

We brought him home on a snowy January night, in a pink laundry basket stuffed with a homemade quilt and a new stuffed animal for him to cuddle with. He was only six weeks old and he was precious. He lasted only a few minutes in that basket in our car until I scooped him onto my lap where he rode the rest of the ride home from the breeder's home in Salt Lake City. He nestled into the crook of my arm and I held him like a baby.

He was sweet. He was cuddly. He was a silky black ball of love. The kiddos instantly adored him.

His favorite place to cuddle up was on my jacket. He found a way to pull it off the back of the kitchen chair, pull the edges with his tiny teeth until it lay flat, and then circle on top of it until he found the perfect spot to take a nap. I thought it was so sweet. Sometimes I would lay my jacket down for him to find.

Now Baxter can no longer fit laying down on my jacket, but he is still just as sweet.
We couldn't have asked for a better first dog for our family.
Now our second dog...he's a different story. (But we still love him)

I admire your patience with dogs. I want to love them, but don't have patience for the chewing and pooping cleaning up and training that you do. Your lucky kids have such a great dog!
