She didn't want to take a nap
without her comfort cup of milk.
I'm the Mom
and it's my job
to break the bad habits that make life easier.
I picked her up gently and held her close,
stroked her soft hair with her head on my shoulder.
I'm the Mom
and it's my job
to comfort my children when they're upset.
We laid down together for her unwanted nap.
She cried about milk, fruit snacks, and "Sleeping Beauty."
I'm the Mom
and it's my job
to calm the babes when they're sad.
I scratched her back and whispered "shh."
We took a deep breath together and snuggled.
I'm the Mom
and it's my job.
