I especially love this idea since First Daughter loves to paint and is learning her letters now. I suppose we could also make shapes for Second Daughter, since she is learning those now.

That is a cute idea. A step further - but would be a lot of work to do all of the letters - but post the alphabet/numbers in order around the room - like a wallpaper border - at night time shine a flashlight on the letters - "Where is M...?" and let your little people find the letter with the flashlight. Later they can spell words etc
